H₂ pilot plant in Lingen
Starting signal for green hydrogen production in Lingen.
RWE is actively involved in the development of innovative hydrogen projects. The H2 molecule is considered to be an important future building block of a successful energy transition. RWE is a partner in over 30 H2 projects and is working on solutions for decarbonising the industry with associations and corporations like Shell, BASF and OGE. Hydrogen projects are comprehensively supported in the separate Hydrogen department of the subsidiary RWE Generation.
A number of demonstration and testing facilities are under construction or operational at sites in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany. GetH2 in Lingen is the German flagship of the hydrogen strategy. With the construction of a 300 MW electrolysis plant here, RWE is giving the starting signal for the development of a nationwide hydrogen infrastructure, for which 40 partners are working together. In the United Kingdom, RWE is committed to Pembroke, where a new centre of excellence for hydrogen is commencing operations at the gas-fired power plant of the same name. The large-scale NorthH2 project on the Dutch North Sea coast aims to utilise several gigawatts of installed offshore wind energy for green hydrogen production by the early 2030s.
Together with strong partners, RWE is currently pressing ahead with around 30 green hydrogen projects –some of which are pioneering. The energy group’s broad positioning along the entire value chain offers the perfect conditions for the development of a functioning hydrogen infrastructure – in onshore and offshore wind power, in the development of green hydrogen production plants and through the operation of large gas-fired power plants.
RWE has considerable expertise and experience in the development of hydrogen projects throughout Europe. Find out more here.
