RWE has secured a commercial-scale floating wind lease off the California coast. The site is situated 45km offshore in the Humboldt region and has a potential installed capacity of 1.6GW.
RWE has an ambition to become a global leader in the deployment of floating offshore wind and to safely develop, build and operate cost-competitive, commercial-scale projects across the international portfolio. This innovative technology will unlock new regions for the deployment of large-scale renewable energy projects.
RWE is one of the largest offshore wind developers and operators in the world, having been an early mover in the industry since 2000. This position means we have built market-leading experience and have deep relationships throughout the supply chain. We aim to repeat this success in the floating market with activity in Europe, Asia and North America. RWE’s experience in deploying seabed-fixed offshore wind, combined with our in-house engineering expertise and global approach means we are particularly well placed to become a leader in floating wind.
RWE has project teams working on floating wind projects in all of the main markets and is preparing for floating wind auctions across the international portfolio including France, Norway, Spain and the UK.
