Project development

Step by step, project by project, paving the way toward a sustainable future.

Local projects with global impact

As a project developer, you’ll work on local energy projects that make a real difference, driving the global expansion of sustainable energy generation.

Project development at RWE is a complex and multi-stage process, ranging from the initial idea to the construction decision of an energy facility. It includes the planning, approval, and realisation of projects across various sectors, such as renewable energies (e.g. wind, solar, hydro), hydrogen and gas, or energy storage development. The key to success lies in the expertise of our project developers, meticulous planning, and a robust network of partners and stakeholders, ensuring seamless implementation.

Leading the way in Project development

Our projects begin with identifying and securing suitable locations. Depending on the technology, this takes place in direct contact with landowners or, for example, through tenders/auctions. Once a location is successfully selected or the auction bid is won, our project developers manage the necessary approval processes and assess the projects for technical and economic feasibility. This is followed by detailed planning, including the selection of technologies, financing, and coordination with relevant stakeholders such as authorities, partners, municipalities, and communities. At this stage, they work closely with colleagues from the Legal, Engineering, and Construction departments. Throughout the development process, conducting environmental impact assessments and securing grid connections are essential to ensure the project's technical and legal viability.
