Inclusion is part of RWE’s lived experience and vital to our culture. From here, people can feel supported in practising and sharing their traditions – and it helps us build stronger connections.
During Ramadan in 2023, several of our colleagues shared personal stories with us on the impact of RWE’s inclusivity. From resources to group-wide awareness, being able to show up as your true self gives us a better understanding of each other and strengthens our community at all levels.
Umair spoke about how the “Contemplation Room” on the RWE Swindon Campus has proven invaluable for prayer times, both during and outside of Ramadan. Omniah’s team demonstrated their empathy and inclusion when planning an after-work team meal. They realised that she would not be able to join as it was due to start before iftar (the evening breaking of the fast). Their approach considered the significance of iftar, and they updated their booking after checking with Omniah to ensure that everyone could attend. Omniah also included her team in celebrating Eid-al-Fitr (the Feast of Fast-Breaking) by sharing home-baked sweets and cookies with her colleagues on the RWE Essen Campus.
While these may seem like small things, it’s these considerate actions that breathe life into our inclusive culture at RWE. Everyday gestures of kindness and understanding mean that we thrive and actively celebrate different backgrounds and traditions.
