Philipp, please tell us about your Consulting career and about your new job within RWE!

I started as a after graduating in Industrial Engineering back in 2019. My first project at RWE Consulting was the merger of innogy’s and EON’s renewables business into the RWE Renewables company. After a successful integration, I was part of the Integration Management project to further enhance financial, processual as well as cultural aspects of the new organisation. Since these huge projects fit well into my personal development plan, I was promoted to Senior Consultant in early 2021. As we were supporting the ramp-up of RWE’s hydrogen business, I was able to drive strategic initiatives as part of RWE’s hydrogen hub. This unique opportunity really burgeoned my interest in the hydrogen economy and its tremendous potential to help decarbonise our industry. Now I’m very happy to be part of RWE’s hydrogen strategy team.

How did working at RWE Consulting help you to transition into RWE’s H₂ business?

Obviously working with the entire hydrogen team made the transition really smooth since I already knew the topics and people quite well. Furthermore, the network I developed over the years and several projects still helps to answer questions or to get valuable input on specific topics. On a personal level, problem solving skills as well as conceptual thinking are capabilities which are at the center of both, Consulting work as well as strategic work. Working at hydrogen-specific strategic questions as part of the project was the start of my personal journey to hopefully become an industry expert for hydrogen.

Which advice would you give to people considering an inhouse Consulting career at RWE Consulting?

The energy transition is one of the key challenges of our generation. RWE Consulting offers the unique opportunity to be part of the energy transition at its heart. For me personally, inhouse consultancy is a journey where you can find your personal area of interest while supporting several projects in different areas. Working at RWE’s lighthouse projects enabled the development of my personal skillset while being part of an amazing team.
