Diversity, equity and inclusion

Fostering an inclusive workplace at RWE and making an impact
on the future of energy

Growing together through our inclusive culture

At RWE, we highly value Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and consider these values to be fundamental to our corporate success. For us an inclusive culture means creating a working environment in which all employees feel valued, respected and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives and talents. For applicants, this means becoming part of a company that not only recognises differences, but understands them as enrichment.

Fostering an inclusive company culture

“At RWE, we cultivate an inclusive culture where diversity is fostered, and every individual is empowered to reach their full potential. We believe that different perspectives drive innovation and strengthen our ability to tackle global challenges. That’s why we are committed to ensuring equitable and fair career development, a workplace where everyone feels valued and respected. Only together, by embracing our differences, can we create a truly sustainable and forward-thinking future.”

Gender

Gender equality in the workplace is one of our top priorities. We’re aiming to strengthen the share of women in leadership, with a goal of 30% in our core business by 2030. The initiatives we’re implementing across the group ensure that we develop and grow a fair and equitable workplace.

Our RWE Women’s Networks promote the free and open exchange of ideas, experiences and career advice. And together, they’re pushing for greater empowerment of women in the energy sector. Recently, we celebrated Women in Engineering Day, with events held across the UK to promote the amazing work of female engineers around the world.

LGBT*IQ

Everyone is a valued member of the team, whatever their sexual orientation or gender identity. We believe all employees have the right to express their gender or sexual identity in the workplace and should feel comfortable doing so. Diverse teams deliver better results — plus broader, healthier perspectives. We are all accountable for ensuring all employees feel welcome and free to be who they are.

It’s why we’ve created the LGBT*IQ & Friends network and we’re passionate supporters of Pride, celebrating in style in 2024. We’ve also created informative podcasts on the LGBT*IQ community at RWE and how to become a better ally and supporter.

Generational diversity

Our unique perspectives make us stronger. It’s why we strive for a multi- generational mix of employees, and support lifelong learning for every employee of every age. A transfer of knowledge between new and experienced employees creates an inclusive culture – as well as introduces the next generation of employees into the workplace. Not only does this emphasise the importance of diversity of thought, it also guarantees our long-term success.

Disability

Everyone, with or without a disability, has a basic right to feel included and treated respectfully. At RWE, we know disability should not be a barrier to achievement or performance at work – it’s why we support multiple forms of accessibility. We work to ensure everyone gets equitable treatment in a positive and understanding working environment. And strengthening a culture that is open and sensibly accessible to everyone on every level.

Culture, ethnicity and religion

We respect the uniqueness of all people – no matter what your background or belief is, you’re welcome at RWE.

RWE is a truly international company – in its approach, its methods and its vision. With over 80 locations around the world, our workforce is drawn from a vast range of cultures, ethnicities and religions. That’s why we provide safe spaces where different religious customs and practices can be honoured and respected.

We’re also signed up to the “Charta der Vielfalt” (“Diversity Charter”) – one of Germany’s largest corporate initiatives, with over 5,900 members and partner initiatives across Germany. This charter promotes the recognition, appreciation and integration of diversity, equity and inclusion into business culture. Something we’re overwhelmingly proud of.

Employee resource networks

Several employee networks are available at RWE for you. Make an impact on topics that are important to you.

And across our diverse networks, we know there will be people facing the same challenges and joys, trials and celebrations. So, we’ve encouraged those people to come together – creating powerful communities who can inspire, support and champion each other in their daily work and beyond.

Diversity Ambassadors

Role models voluntarily raise awareness of inclusive behaviour at RWE.

The Diversity Ambassador Programme is an internal network for diversity, equity and inclusion role models who voluntarily raise awareness of inclusive behaviour at RWE.

The ambassadors become local champions – whether that’s at lunch with colleagues, in team discussions or in global meetings. There’s also a self-learning training program which covers a range of topics, helping us to stay open-minded and accepting of all people.

Women’s Network

Developing successful careers with collaborating, connecting and providing support.

The RWE Women’s Network is a self-organised network in which over 1000 women collaborate, connect and provide support for one another to develop successful careers.

They engage women from across the entire company, hosting a yearly conference and offering working sessions about current challenges of the energy economy and leadership.

LGBT*IQ & Friends

Our internal LGBT*IQ & Friends Network unites LGBT*IQ employees and their allies.

The community’s goal is to raise awareness both internally and externally – and foster a working environment where everyone is welcome to be as they are.

This is just one of the great, safe spaces at RWE. Regularly promoting greater understanding within the wider business, they educate and inspire employees around the globe on topics such as coming out at work and LGBT*IQ rights.

Empower @ RWE

Raising awareness on the topics disability, neurodiversity and mental health.

Empower is the name of our fledgling employee network raising awareness on the topics disability, neurodiversity and mental health. It is available for allies, as well as those who have disabilities.

Frequent networking sessions are held to give support and guidance to those who need it. We’re always looking for ways we can empower employees – the more we learn, the greater action we can take.

Diversity dashboard

In addition to an open and tolerant culture, transparency is one of our core values. Our colleagues of Team Diversity provide important key figures of our Group within the diversity dashboard.

This, for example, figures such as the gender ratio of women and men, proportion of people with severe disabilities or age structure.
