Hydrogen

Green hydrogen is the key element for successful decarbonization and the energy transition, especially in sectors that are difficult to electrify. RWE offers expertise and a strong platform for the development of projects along the value chain for carbon neutral hydrogen.

RWE will also be a key player in the global trade of low-carbon ammonia in the future in building capacity along the entire ammonia value chain.

Storage

RWE will significantly expand its storage portfolio by co-locating storage with wind and PV farms. Currently, around 10 battery projects with a total of 600 MW are in operation or under development, including the large-scale battery storage facilities 117+ and Samsara with a capacity of around 200 MW. Along the value chain for storage, RWE holds a leading position in development, operation, deployment, optimization and marketing.

Flexible Generation

Storage and flexible generation are two main pillars of renewables. RWE is #2 operator of flexible gas-fired power plants in Europe. Soon, we plan to operate gas turbines with blue or green hydrogen. In addition to battery storage, RWE operates a fleet of about 2.1 GW of pumped storage. The provision of flexibilities for the market and as a system service for the grid will become even more important in the future and offers excellent commercial opportunities. We would also be happy to include your flexible generation plant in our pool.
