Welcome to RWE in Greece!

About RWE Renewables Hellas
RWE is a world leading company in the field of renewable energies. With our investment and growth strategy “Growing Green”, we are contributing significantly to the success of the energy transition and the decarbonisation of the energy system around the globe.
In 2021, RWE entered the Greek renewables market and established its subsidiary RWE Renewables Hellas. With an experienced team based in Athens, the company is accelerating the energy transition in Greece. And we are constantly growing our local team.
Strong partnership in solar power
Greece is one of the sunniest countries in Europe and has ambitious growth plans for renewables.
Together with our Greek partner PPC Renewables, RWE formed the joint venture company, Meton Energy S.A. in 2021. Up to 2,000 MW of new solar capacity are to be installed in Greece through the joint venture. The partnership is a collaboration on equal terms, where complementary strengths become a factor for success.

Solar projects under construction
Together, PPC Renewables and RWE already have two large-scale solar farms under operation and another seven under construction. These nine solar projects have a total capacity of 940 MWp (870 MWac) and are located in Western Macedonia in Northern Greece, within the boundaries of the former Amynteo open pit lignite mine. In addition, with our Greek partner, we are developing another two solar projects of a total capacity of 560 MWp (520 MWac), located in Central Macedonia in Northern Greece.
For the investment in the solar farms under construction, the partners have secured EU funds via the Recovery and Resilience Facility plan “Greece 2.0”.
Strong renewables footprint with Offshore Wind
RWE plans to complement its strong renewables footprint with offshore wind projects in Greece. In partnership with HELLENiQ Energy the company aims to collaborate on the development, construction and operation of offshore wind farms off the Greek coast.
HELLENiQ Energy brings in extensive experience within the Greek energy sector and a commitment to expand its renewables portfolio. RWE contributes its extensive technical and commercial expertise from a track record of more than 20 years in offshore wind. This partnership is all the more significant in light of Greece’s current target of having 1.9 GW of offshore wind capacity in operation by 2030 for both fixed-bottom and floating projects.
